In the early stages of most installation journeys we are asked about the differences between Quartz & Granite, here’s what you need to know!

How are these materials formed?

Both Granite and Quartz are formed from the crystallization of magma as it rapidly cools just under the earth’s surface.

Granite is then cut and processed into large slabs, multi stage polished with diamond tipped tools to give the sheen that we are all used to.

Quartz is manufactured by taking the quartz crystals, crushing them into a fine sand to be combined with resin to bind the particles together.

Although both materials share many similarities such as resilience and glossy feel there are some differences that are not to be overlooked! Granite is slightly more prone to scratching and requires sealing every 10 years whereas quartz requires no such maintenance.

Quartz is slightly more durable overall and boasts the added benefit of being anti-bacterial, these reasons along with bespoke customisation of quartz style has made the material more and more popular.
